Remember back in January when these USA Freedom Kids turned your stomach at that Trump rally with the song that began, “Cowardice! Are you serious? / Apologies for freedom, I can’t handle this”? Guess what? Now they’re suing him.
They were told the campaign couldn’t pay them for their performance, but that they could set up a table to sell their merchandise. Then security said they couldn’t bring said swag into the rally so they had to leave it in the car, from which it was all stolen. Then they were invited to perform at a rally in Iowa but they had to pay their own airfare from Florida, which they did. “It was a long, overnight odyssey,” said Jeff Popick, father of one of the girls. “They were exhausted, but excited to perform. We flew non-stop to Chicago, and then had to drive another 5½ hours to Des Moines,” only to be told on arrival that their performing services were not required. Still — great news! — seats had been saved for them at the rally. But — bad news! — the condition for attending was that they not talk to the media, thus eliminating even the minimal benefit of publicity. Long story short, they are now the eleventy bazillionth entity to be involved in litigation with Donald Trump. “We’re not suing for emotional distress and all that other stuff that people do when they trump up—no pun intended—when they trump up a lawsuit,” Popick explained. “That’s not what this is. This is tangible dollars I spent under false pretenses.” Kelly Weill@The Daily Beast (9/6/16)
